The largest bee species
The largest bee species in the world is Megachile pluto, also known as Wallace's giant bee or the "king of bees." The wingspan of these bees can reach up to 63.5 mm, and females can be up to 38 mm long. This species was thought to be extinct until it was rediscovered in 1981, and a live female was filmed in 2019.
Another large bee species is Apis laboriosa, also known as the Himalayan giant honey bee. These bees can grow up to 3 cm in length and are the largest honey bees in the world. They are commonly found in the Himalayan mountains, where they build large nests on cliff ledges.
